To Protect Against Shocks, the NEC
requires that ground fault protection be provided for all 125 volt 15 and 20 amp receptacle outlets:
- In bathrooms
- Outdoors
- In kitchens for all receptacles that serve countertop surfaces including receptacles installed on islands and peninsulas
- Within 6 feet from the edge of a wet bar or sink
- In garages
- In sheds, workshops, or storage buildings
- Crawl spaces below grade
- In unfinished basements
- By swimming pools
